I’ve visited Bantayan in different seasons, but summer remains my favorite time to go. Beyond the beaches, you can explore the island by motorcycle, enjoy affordable seafood, shop for dried-fish pasalubong, and even take a side trip to quieter Kinatarcan Island.
Here’s my practical guide to planning your Bantayan getaway.
How to Get to Bantayan Island from Cebu City
From Cebu City, take a bus or van heading north to Hagnaya Port. If you want to maximize your first day, I recommend leaving Cebu very early. I’ve even started the journey around midnight before.
Once you reach Hagnaya, buy your ferry ticket to Santa Fe, the main tourist gateway to Bantayan Island.
If you’re bringing a private car, there are paid parking areas near Hagnaya Port. Another option is taking your vehicle across via RORO.
Tip: Bantayan gets especially busy during Holy Week. There may be plenty of buses and ferries, but expect crowds and longer waiting times. If you can, travel earlier.
Getting Around Bantayan Island
Bantayan Island has three main municipalities:
- Santa Fe – beaches, resorts, restaurants, and most tourist activities
- Bantayan – the town proper and a good place for local food and pasalubong
- Madridejos – farther north and worth exploring if you want to see more of the island
One of my favorite ways to explore Bantayan is by motorcycle. You can cover a lot in one day, although I wouldn’t rush it if you have more time.
Things to Do in Bantayan Island
Enjoy Santa Fe Beach
For most first-time visitors, Santa Fe is where the Bantayan experience begins.
Spend a slow morning at the beach, swim, walk along the shore, or simply do nothing—which is honestly one of the best things to do on an island.
I’ve visited Bantayan during different seasons, and personally, summer gave me my favorite beach experience.
I’ve also been there in August when there was more seaweed along the shoreline. Of course, beach conditions change with weather and tides, but based on my own trips, I’d still choose summer.
Find a Quieter Spot at Paradise Beach
If Santa Fe feels too busy and you’re looking for somewhere more peaceful, Paradise Beach is one of my recommendations.
Bring your beach essentials, find a quiet spot, and stay for a while. This is the kind of place I’d choose when I just want the sea without too much going on around me.
Visit The Ruins
The Ruins is an unfinished structure overlooking the sea and an easy stop while exploring Bantayan by motorcycle.
You don’t need to spend hours here. Stop for the coastal view, take some photos, and continue your island tour.
Drop by Camp Sawi
If you’ve heard of the Filipino movie Camp Sawi, you might want to add this to your itinerary too.
You don’t actually have to be sawi to visit. 😂
And if you are… well, there are worse places to be heartbroken than Bantayan Island.
Explore Bantayan Town
Don’t stay only around Santa Fe.
Head to Bantayan proper for a more local side of the island. It’s also where I like shopping for pasalubong, especially dried seafood such as danggit and pusit.
And speaking of food, one of the best biko I’ve ever tasted was homemade by my mom’s friend in Bantayan. Sometimes the most memorable food isn’t found in a restaurant.
Go Up to Madridejos
If you’re already exploring by motorcycle, continue toward Madridejos.
Going from Santa Fe to Bantayan Town and farther north lets you see more than the usual resort areas. Depending on your pace, you can explore all three municipalities in one day.
What About Virgin Island?
Virgin Island is one of the popular boat trips from Bantayan.
But this is one place I haven’t experienced yet, so I can’t give you my personal review.
Maybe on my next visit. 🤞
Sometimes it’s nice to leave one place unexplored—it gives you another reason to return.
Take a Side Trip to Kinatarcan Island
If you have an extra day, consider going beyond Bantayan to Kinatarcan Island.
This is one of those places that feels much quieter and less touristy. For me, it showed a different side of northern Cebu—simple, laid-back, and beautiful.
One of the places to explore is La-aw, known for its lagoon/cove and surrounding cliffs. There’s also Tamboan ni Leon, another scenic coastal area nearby.
Standing there gave me that feeling of seeing where the sky meets the sea.
I recommend giving Kinatarcan its own day instead of squeezing it into an already busy Bantayan itinerary.
What to Eat in Bantayan
Seafood is one of the best parts of visiting Bantayan, and you don’t necessarily have to spend much to enjoy it.
Try the local seafood, explore small eateries, and don’t forget your pasalubong before heading home.

Ultimate 3 Days 2 Nights Bantayan Island Itinerary & Layout
If it’s your first visit, I’d keep your itinerary relaxed.
Day 1: Travel early from Cebu → arrive in Santa Fe → check in → beach → sunset → dinner
Day 2: Rent a motorcycle → The Ruins → Paradise Beach → Camp Sawi → Bantayan Town → Madridejos → seafood dinner
Day 3: Slow morning at the beach or Virgin Island boat trip → pasalubong shopping → return to Cebu
If you have another day, use it for Kinatarcan Island instead of trying to fit everything into three days.
My Bantayan Island Travel Tips
Start your journey from Cebu early if you want to maximize your first day. Rent a motorcycle if you’re comfortable driving, but don’t feel like you need to visit every attraction just because it’s on a list.
If you’re traveling during Holy Week, prepare for much bigger crowds. And based on my own visits, summer is still my favorite season for Bantayan’s beaches.
Most importantly, leave room in your itinerary to do absolutely nothing.
Bantayan is one of those places where sitting by the beach with no schedule can easily become the best part of the trip.
Is Bantayan Island Worth Visiting?
For me, yes.
I’ve been to Bantayan more than once, in different seasons, and I still find reasons to return.
Maybe next time I’ll finally make it to Virgin Island.
Until then, I’m perfectly happy remembering Bantayan for its white sand, seafood, motorcycle rides, quiet corners, and those slow island days that make you forget about the time.
Bantayan is incredible for beach lovers, but if you prefer a quieter escape with deep freshwater caves and fewer crowds, you should also look into visiting the hidden gems of Camotes Island.
