Vietnam: Made Me Write Again…

“Sometimes, the place that changes you isn’t the one you planned to visit. It’s simply the one that quietly hands you back the pieces you thought you had lost.”

Vietnam was never supposed to be about healing.

After Malaysia confronted me with the fears I had buried for years, I arrived in Vietnam carrying a quieter heart. There was disappointment, uncertainty, and a waiting season I could neither rush nor escape.

But Vietnam never asked me to explain any of it.

Instead, it simply gave me room to breathe.

It reminded me that life doesn’t always have to make sense before it can become beautiful.

And somewhere between the sea breeze, long walks, and quiet cafés, I found myself doing something I hadn’t done in a long time.

I started writing again.

Not because I finally had everything figured out.

But because I realized hope doesn’t wait for perfect circumstances.

Sometimes, it begins with a blank page.

Following My Mood Instead of an Itinerary

Da Nang taught me a different way to travel.

For once, I didn’t feel the need to follow a carefully planned itinerary or chase every tourist attraction.

I simply followed my mood.

If I wanted coffee, I found a café.

If I wanted to walk, I walked.

If a street looked interesting, I turned into it without checking Google Maps.

For the first time in a while, I wasn’t trying to control the journey.

I was letting the journey lead me.

That spontaneity became one of the best parts of Vietnam.

A City Best Experienced Slowly

One thing I quickly fell in love with was how walkable Da Nang is.

I spent hours crossing the Han River, walking from one side of the city to the other, discovering places one step at a time.

The iconic Dragon Bridge, the charming Love Lock Bridge, and the riverside promenade are all within walking distance of each other, making the city perfect for travelers who enjoy exploring on foot.

During the day, Da Nang feels calm and relaxed.

By night, the city transforms.

The lights reflect beautifully on the river, cafés become lively, music fills the streets, and the atmosphere becomes festive without feeling overwhelming.

Then there was My Khe Beach.

Whether under the morning sun or after sunset, it has a different kind of beauty.

Watching locals exercise at sunrise and families enjoying the evening breeze reminded me that happiness often lives in ordinary moments.

My Favorite Ride Cost Less Than Coffee

One unexpected highlight?

Taking Grab motorbikes.

There’s something incredibly freeing about sitting behind a local rider while the wind brushes against your face, weaving through the streets of Da Nang.

It wasn’t just transportation.

It became part of the experience itself.

Sometimes the journey really is the destination.

Looking Over the City

A visit to the Son Tra Peninsula brought another perspective—quite literally.

Standing before the towering Lady Buddha (Linh Ung Pagoda), I learned about the local belief that she watches over Da Nang, protecting fishermen and the city from storms and natural calamities.

Whether you visit for faith, history, or simply the breathtaking panoramic view of the coastline, it’s one of those places that naturally invites quiet reflection.

I stayed longer than I planned.

Some places don’t need words.

Hoi An Felt Like Walking Into Another Time

If there was one place that completely captured my heart, it was Hoi An.

The moment I entered the Ancient Town, it felt as though someone had quietly turned back time.

The lanterns.

The yellow heritage houses.

The narrow streets.

The riverside cafés.

Everything felt dreamlike.

Almost as if I had stepped into another dimension where life moved a little slower and people remembered how to appreciate simple things.

Hoi An isn’t just beautiful.

It makes you slow down.

If your schedule and budget allow, consider adding Cam Thanh Coconut Village to your itinerary as well. Although I didn’t get the chance to experience the famous basket boats this time, it’s definitely on my list for my next visit.

Some places deserve a reason to return.

The Journey Was Part of the Adventure

Instead of flying north, I decided to travel like many locals do.

I boarded the 16-hour train from Da Nang to Hanoi, choosing the most affordable option—the soft seat.

Was it comfortable?

Not exactly.

Was it worth it?

Absolutely.

The changing landscapes outside the window became their own kind of movie.

Mountains, rice fields, fishing villages, coastlines, and quiet towns slowly unfolded as the train continued north.

It was tiring.

But sometimes the most memorable journeys aren’t the easiest ones.

They’re the ones that allow you to experience a country the way its people do.

Vietnam Gave Me Back My Words

Looking back, Vietnam wasn’t the place where all my problems disappeared.

It was the place where they stopped defining me.

While I was waiting for answers I didn’t yet have…

While some prayers were still unfolding…

While certain disappointments remained unfinished…

Life gently reminded me that I could still create beautiful memories.

I could still discover new places.

I could still laugh with strangers.

I could still sit in a café with my laptop and write stories that, perhaps one day, someone else might need to read.

Gratitude isn’t always born from having everything.

Sometimes, it comes from realizing that even in seasons of waiting, life continues to offer reasons to keep moving forward.

Vietnam gave me that reminder.

It gave me my words back.

And perhaps, without realizing it, it was here that my travel blog truly began.

Next Stop: Hanoi — where a 16-hour train ride led me to stories waiting to be told.
