Recommended Accommodations in Southeast Asia
Finding a good place to stay can make a huge difference when traveling, especially when you’re moving from one city to another.
During my travels around Southeast Asia, I’ve stayed in different apartments, hostels, and budget accommodations. Some stood out because of their location, some because they were comfortable and affordable, and others simply because they made traveling around the city much easier.
Here are some of the accommodations I would recommend if you’re planning a trip to Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hanoi, Da Nang, or Vientiane.

Apartment in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
If you’re staying in Kuala Lumpur, this apartment is one of the accommodations I recommend considering.
I liked having an apartment rather than staying in a traditional hotel because having a little more space and the option to prepare food can be useful, especially during a longer trip.

Apartment in Bangkok, Thailand
For Bangkok, I recommend looking for accommodation that is close to public transportation. Bangkok is a large and busy city, so being able to easily reach an MRT station can save you a lot of time.
This apartment is within walking distance of the MRT, which made getting around Bangkok much more convenient.

Apartment in Hoàn Kiếm, Hanoi
If you’re visiting Hanoi, staying near the Old Quarter is something I would strongly consider.
This apartment in Hoàn Kiếm is within walking distance of the Old Quarter, making it convenient if you want to explore Hanoi on foot.
Being close to the attractions also meant I didn’t have to rely on transportation every time I wanted to go somewhere nearby.

Affordable Accommodation in Hanoi
If you’re looking for a more affordable place to stay in Hanoi, this is another option worth checking.
One thing I particularly liked was its walking distance to the Old Quarter, which is useful if you want to spend your days exploring the area without constantly arranging transportation.

Da Nang is one of the places where I found it possible to find comfortable accommodation without spending too much.

Hostel in Vientiane, Laos
For Vientiane, this hostel is one of the places I’d recommend checking if you’re looking for something comfortable, affordable, and conveniently located.
I particularly liked that it was within walking distance of places around the city, which made exploring Vientiane easier.

Airbnb or Hotel — Which Do I Prefer?
For my travels, I often prefer Airbnb, particularly when I’m staying somewhere for several days or longer.
One reason is that I like having access to a kitchen. If you’re traveling for an extended period, being able to prepare a simple meal or breakfast can help reduce how much you spend eating out.
I also like having a little more space and the feeling of having a temporary home rather than simply a hotel room.
That said, hotels and hostels can be more convenient for shorter stays, so I usually decide based on the destination, length of stay, and budget.
My tip:
If you’re booking an Airbnb for a longer trip, consider looking for a place with a kitchen or cooking facilities. It can be particularly useful for travelers trying to manage their budget.

Final Travel Tip
When choosing accommodation, I don’t think you always need the most expensive or highly rated place.
For me, location, cleanliness, convenience, and value matter more.
Before booking, I usually check:
- How close is it to public transportation?
- Can I walk to restaurants and attractions?
- Does it have cooking facilities if I’m staying longer?
- What do recent guests say?
- Does the price fit my travel budget?
- Is it convenient for my itinerary?
A good location can sometimes save you more money and time than choosing the cheapest accommodation available.
